How to Start Your Spiritual Journey

How to Start Your Spiritual Journey

One of the questions I get asked all the time, is why and how are you on the spiritual path that you are on?

Buckle up, this is a long one, but one I think is a good one!

My answer:

I started because I got sick and I needed answers, then it bloomed into a way to help others.

The process isn’t easy, especially on the front-end because there is so much to learn, and once you start down the path it is like riding a bike. The information flows, as if you have learned the process before.

There are 6 things that are helpful when getting started:

  • Make Space

Get organized and make space for You. Create a scheduled time that is just for you to learn, pray and invest in you.

For me, I found a place upstairs in my house that wasn’t being utilized, cleaned out an area and organized the space to function.  I cleaned out old stuff and got organized so that as I was reading and learning, the area accommodated me for what I was trying to accomplish.

  • Release What No Longer Serves You

What are you afraid of?

Take the time to learn how to meditate and release fear so that your space reflects faith and peace.  Release the toxic thoughts to make space for new neural pathways and self-mastery.

Journal about the things that hold you back so you know what your limiting beliefs are, and you can plan to let them go to open new doors of opportunity and growth. You must recognize them first, then get on the bus for the new plan.

  • Self- Reflection (Know Thyself)

When was the last time you looked in the mirror and asked yourself, Who am I really?

Am I living authentically? And if not, why?

What are the obstacles keeping me from the life I want/deserve? Are your spiritual beliefs supporting your spiritual growth?

Do your habits and lifestyle rituals hinder or help you in your growth? Where is your time going?

These few questions are eye openers when we reflect on our habits, days, and the people in our sphere of influence who collectively direct our life.  Is that serving you? Or is it hindering you?

  • Self- Love

Okay, let’s get to the good part. LOVE YOURSELF, you have permission to love yourself. You are not being selfish. You are a PRIORITY! Live your life like you are a priority.

Eat foods that nourish your life, move your body like you love yourself, speak to yourself and others like you love unconditionally, and Act like you love yourself.

I get it, sometimes it is hard.  But we have got to make ourselves a priority.

My go to analogy: When you get on an airplane, what is the first thing the flight attendant goes through? Putting your oxygen mask on yourself first! So put on your oxygen mask and Love Your Life!

  • Read

If you want to move forward, you have to go through the process and part of that process is reading. Read, learn, find books that move you to place you want to be in. Find people who are living the way you want to and learn.

  • Be Still – Quiet Your Mind

Commit 15 minutes a day to start with to sitting in silence and solitude. We are inundated all day long with all kinds of information from the internet, social media, work, news, family etc, take the time for You to stop and let your brain catch up to what is going on around you and organizing it for you.  We live in a world of hustle and bustle and never stop long enough to listen the whispers of God.

Now is the time to stop and spend time in meditation and prayer and listen to what is next.

We all need the opportunity to let our thoughts pass through without judgement. We need to learn to breath and let go of the thoughts and information that don’t belong to us. Bringing it all back in with breath and learning to breath from your belly and not your chest will clear the mind and slowly you will see a difference in your mood and your thought patterns.

I told you this would be a long post, and sure has been, so my last bit of advice is to fall in love with the process of your journey.  There is no endgame. Spirituality is an evolution of you.  Fall in love with becoming the best version of You.

You are worthy of all great things!!

If you would like to know more about this process, meditation, breathwork or life coaching, email me at [email protected] and tell me what you need help with. Or feel free to post comments below or ask questions.

I look forward to hearing from you!!
