Playing in Graveyards

Playing in Graveyards

A few years ago, I went to a class on energy healing. A friend of mine was holding it in her office and hired the woman who was mentoring her to come in and work with her team. Now you know as well as I do, not everyone really understands energy healing so for my fellow church goers, think of working with a group of people and let’s Lay Hands on everyone for healing.

About two hours into this training, we started talking about crystals, and the energy that they hold from the earth.  I am sure plenty of people you know including you, wear them around your neck and in your jewelry pieces, you have your favorites and not sure why, it is more than likely an energy thing.

As the morning continued, suddenly one of the trainers looks up and says, “OH y’all, speaking of crystals, I went to a crystal cave yesterday.”

What?

Not once has anyone mentioned a crystal cave to me in my own hometown, and someone who is in town for the day finds it the night before. I suppose no one from around town had a good reason to bring it up in conversation really. But sure enough, there is a crystal cave. And said cave, is in a graveyard.

Now my first thought, is why you playing in a graveyard the night before a training on energy?

Seriously…you can only imagine where my brain went. I was a little triggered to say the least, but as sure as I was playing with this information in my head, the whole room decided to move this training to the crystal cave in the graveyard.  We picked up and headed that way.

Long story short, we went to the cave spend a few hours there, it was interesting and enlightening, and I was glad we went. We enjoyed our small group inside a cave that was dead center in the middle of the graveyard and was full of crystals, but after a few hours it was time to go (caves have bugs that bite).

The next day I had a conversation with my mother, I told her about the experience and told her about the crystal cave. Her response: “Oh yes, I played there every weekend as a kid. All my cousins and parents went to the graveyard on the weekends after church and spent the afternoons playing in the graveyards. We had many games of hide-and-seek in the crystal cave.”

Okay, you thought I was triggered by someone doing energy work who went to the graveyard the night before, but how about your mom playing in the graveyard as a kid…for fun???(insert a look of terror)

Turns out, there was a reason. I personally am not a fan of extended periods of time in a graveyard, but maybe we could learn something.

My parents’ generation, which is the baby boomer generation grew up in a time of heightened focus on personal development. They may not have realized it at the time and just followed along with traditions. They wanted to remember and keep present those whose stories needed to live on. It was a time of observing, learning, and remembering those who have passed and learning from the other families in graveyards too. We have forgotten so much of our history, and how families operated and worked together to create solid foundations and communities.

It is the Dash we all want to learn more about-

There is so much that our generations now have lost, that will never be retrieved in a book or online, but the energy and reverence and fabric of our nation lie in rest.

Much creativity has come from the graveyards, from facts to fiction, there is much to be learned. You can create stories and plays from characters you see, as well as learning about the generational problems from decade to decade. Tombstones tells us about a birthplace, emigrations, moves, farm locations, spouse, children and so on.  A vision of what was, can be what is now through imagination created from our past lives. Our family’s past lives that is…..

Maybe it is time to visit our loved ones from the past and learn to play in the graveyards again.

I look forward to hearing from you!

The wealthiest place on the planet is the graveyard, because in the graveyard we will find inventions that were never exposed to, ideas, dreams that never became reality, hopes and aspirations that were never acted upon. – Les Brown
